Apple has introduced AppleCare One Family, a new device protection subscription available to customers in the US. It extends Apple’s existing AppleCare One plan — until now built for a single person’s devices — to cover everyone in a household at once.
The announcement came quietly, almost as a footnote, during Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event this week, where the company’s main focus was the iPhone 18 Pro and the newly unveiled iPhone Duo. But for anyone managing more than one Apple device across a family, this might end up being the more practical announcement of the two.
Why This Plan Exists
AppleCare One originally launched in the US back in July 2025, aimed at people juggling several of their own Apple products. The idea was simple: instead of paying for a separate AppleCare+ subscription per device, you pay one fixed monthly fee and cover up to three products under it. It worked well for someone with, say, a personal iPhone, iPad, and MacBook — but it did nothing for a spouse’s phone or a kid’s iPad, since those needed their own separate plans entirely.
AppleCare One Family closes that gap. Instead of coverage tied to one person’s Apple ID, it extends across an entire Family Sharing group of up to six people.
What It Costs, and What It Covers
The AppleCare One Family subscription costs $49.99 per month in the US (as per MacRumors report)— working out to roughly $600 a year. That’s a noticeable step up from the individual plan’s $19.99 monthly price, but the comparison isn’t really apples-to-apples once you factor in how many devices and people it can realistically cover.
The plan includes the same core benefits as AppleCare+: coverage for accidental damage like drops and spills, battery replacement service, and priority support from Apple’s own experts. On top of that, it adds theft and loss protection for eligible iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch models across the whole family group — not just the plan owner’s device.
Apple says there’s no annual limit on accidental damage or warranty claims, but theft and loss claims are capped at six per year for the entire family group combined. That’s an important detail to actually sit with — it’s not six claims per person, it’s six claims total, shared across everyone on the plan.

Adding Devices Doesn’t Raise the Price
One of the more genuinely useful details here: adding more eligible devices to the subscription doesn’t change the $49.99 monthly cost. Any new Apple product a family member buys automatically joins the coverage at no extra charge, as long as it’s linked through the same Family Sharing group. Older devices already owned by family members can also be added when they enroll, provided they’re under four years old and in working condition — Apple notes a diagnostic check may be required first.
For a household that’s slowly accumulating a second-hand iPad here, an old Apple Watch there, and a couple of iPhones, that “price stays fixed” detail is arguably the whole pitch. Compare that to the individual AppleCare One plan, where each additional device beyond the first three costs another $5.99 a month — the math starts favoring the family plan pretty quickly once more than a couple of people are involved.
How to Set It Up
Getting onto AppleCare One Family starts with Family Sharing, which needs to be active through Settings on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac first. The person managing the plan can invite up to five other members, bringing total coverage to six people including themselves.
Once that’s in place, managing the actual subscription happens through Settings → General → AppleCare & Warranty, where users can add, remove, or swap covered products — provided each device meets Apple’s eligibility rules and is properly linked to an Apple account.
Where It’s Available, and Where It Isn’t Yet
AppleCare One Family goes live in the US starting September 14 — timed to land alongside the rollout of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Duo, and the newer Apple Watch models. Apple hasn’t announced availability outside the US yet. The standard AppleCare One plan, for context, has already expanded beyond the US to Australia, France, Germany, and the UK, so an international rollout for the family tier wouldn’t be surprising — Apple just hasn’t confirmed a timeline for it.
For now, if you’re outside the US and hoping to cover your family’s Apple devices under one plan, the honest answer is: not yet, but likely on the way.
